About Me
I’m Shawn Weston McLaughlin, an art director and experience designer. I solve my clients’ problems by developing visual solutions that position them above their competitors, ultimately increasing profits. Companies I’ve worked with include PBS, Comvia International Songwriting Contest, CCM Network International, chart-topping Billboard rock band Love Like Gravity, and the University of Arkansas.
I’ve had a successful career, and I believe the reason is simple: I was not born to be a creator of artwork or a decorator of things. I was born to be a problem-solver, and the best art directors in the world are those who design solutions and design them well. Not only does my work ensure that my clients will stand out, it also provides visual expressions that stand the test of time, enabling clients to engage and connect with their own customers more effectively than ever before.
I currently serve as an online art director/web designer, facilitating and directing the visual aspects of the online department for Arkansas’s largest network of newspapers.

About This Blog
During my decade-long career, I’ve had the privilege of working both in-house and in-agency as a designer, an art director, and a creative director. As I grew, I quickly learned that it’s not enough to create good artwork – The best designers have to quickly learn to produce results and influence actions and solve problems with their creations.
As a young professional, I was fortunate enough to have some great mentors in the real world, people who understood that design school is often not enough to create competent designers. Much of what you learn in design school falls quickly to the cutting room floor in favor of work by seasoned professionals, people who have been around the block a few times. I’m forever grateful to these individuals… and in turn, this blog is my way of passing it forward to the next generation of people who will shape the world.
